(Beyond the Disney Classics: Honoring an R&B Legend)

The music world is mourning the loss of legendary vocalist Peabo Bryson, who passed away on June 2, 2026, following complications from a stroke suffered just days earlier. He was 75 years old. News of his passing quickly spread across major media outlets, many of which remembered him primarily as the voice behind Disney classics "A Whole New World" from Aladdin and "Beauty and the Beast." Some headlines even labeled him simply as a "Disney singer."

While those beloved songs introduced Bryson to a new generation of listeners and expanded his reach into family entertainment and pop culture, they represent only a portion of a remarkable career that spanned more than five decades. Long before Disney came calling, Peabo Bryson had already established himself worldwide as one of the most gifted and respected voices in R&B, soul, adult contemporary, and jazz-influenced music.

HBO’s new original comedy series Rooster premieres Sundays at 10/9c on HBO and streams on HBO Max. The 10-episode series is produced by Warner Bros. Television and led by co-showrunners and executive producers Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, with Steve Carell headlining the cast while also taking on an executive producer role.

Set on a college campus, Rooster follows successful author Greg Russo (Carell), who accepts a writer-in-residence position at Ludlow College at the invitation of its president. Xavier Beloved plays George Heitman, an athlete at Ludlow College who, despite his imposing physical presence, is a gentle giant whose kindness defines him.

All of this will culminate in the highly anticipated album, The Memoirs of The Southern Hummingbird, scheduled for release later this fall.
